I had a great day yesterday visiting with some long time friends from New Orleans. We met years ago at a rave being held at State Palace Theatre on Canal Street. It was so good to see them. We went out to eat together and had a great visit. They have 2 daughters and they were so well-mannered and very sweet. I love it when God connects us with people, and you just know it’s a “friends for life” type of connection. Our friendship is a lot like that – we have been through so much over the years on our separate journeys, but have managed to stay in touch and try to be there for each other whenever possible. It was such a treat to get to see them again.
And so, as I was lying in bed this morning, I was reminded again about how our relationship with God is so intimate. It is similar to this type of friendship that I feel with Micah and Julia – but the reality of it is so much deeper. Julia and I were talking yesterday about how having a relationship with God is so simple – yet we make it so difficult sometimes. To just pray “help” is one of the most profound things you can do! Children know when they are hungry to ask their parents for food. Usually, as they get older, they just go to the refrigerator, open it up, and make a sandwich.
I was feeling inspired this morning to write about friendship with God. It says in 2 Corinthians 5 that we have been reconciled to God. The veil that once separated us from God has been completely demolished. If we feel we are far away from God, then and only then do we need to repent (repent means to have another thought or change your thoughts) to the fact that this is not true, as we are accepted in the Beloved. We need to simply turn our affection toward Him realizing His perfect love has us completely engulfed. Our transgressions were removed by the blood of Jesus. The Alpha and the Omega, is my personal friend. I can come boldly into His presence because I am confident in His love for me. Nobody is exempt from this – it is our inheritance, to be joint-heirs with Christ! This is astounding news! God is in a good mood!
He is perfectly satisfied with what His Son has accomplished. And that is also our portion. To be satisfied in Him. There is a place available to us where we can be confident and have the ability to trust Him in all circumstances and situations. Once you start experiencing the intimate details of your loving Heavenly Father’s kisses – you will never be the same again. You can say like David, “even if I go down to the depths of Sheol, you are there with me. I will fear nothing.”
He loves us so much. We are so precious to Him. Each and every one.
